Cell Phone Networks in the US
Three companies run nationwide cell networks in the US: AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile. Most other cell phone brands rent space on one of those three networks. Visible runs on Verizon’s network, Cricket Wireless on AT&T’s, and Mint Mobile on T-Mobile’s. A plan from one of these brands reaches the same places as its host network.
Each city page on this site shows how much of the area each carrier covers, where each carrier offers 5G, and the data speeds each carrier reports. The pages also list plans from the smaller brands that run on those networks.

Network Types
5G is the current network generation. Carriers run it on three kinds of radio spectrum. Low-band 5G covers wide areas at speeds close to 4G LTE. Mid-band and high-band 5G run much faster but reach less ground from each tower, so they mainly serve cities and suburbs. For the 5G picture in any area, see 5G coverage in your area.
4G LTE carries calls and data wherever 5G is missing, and it covers nearly all populated areas.
3G service has ended. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile shut down their 3G networks in 2022, so phones that only support 3G no longer connect.
How to Check Coverage at an Address
Coverage maps show where a carrier’s signal should reach outdoors. Signal inside a building can be weaker, especially in basements and in buildings with metal or concrete walls.
To check a single address, use the FCC National Broadband Map, which shows each carrier’s reported 4G and 5G coverage, or the carrier’s own map. Neighbors who already use a carrier at home are a good second check.

Where This Data Comes From
The city pages use carrier coverage data that BestNeighborhood compiled by neighborhood in early 2023. Carriers have expanded 5G since then. The FCC National Broadband Map shows each carrier’s latest filings for any single address.
