Terms of Use

Last updated: August 26, 2026

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of bestneighborhood.org and any associated subdomains (the “Site”), operated by BestNeighborhood.org (“we”, “us”). By accessing the Site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

1. What we provide

The Site describes and compares neighborhoods, cities, counties, ZIP codes, metro areas, and states across the United States. It publishes neighborhood ratings, rankings, grades, percentile scores, maps, and estimates covering topics such as home prices, rent, household income, schools, crime, noise, walkability, commutes, weather, internet service, and mobile coverage. These outputs are not raw government records. They are the product of our own methodology, modeling, aggregation, normalization, and scoring applied to underlying source data, and together they constitute a compiled database in which we claim rights (the “BestNeighborhood Data”).

2. Permitted use

You may browse the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes, and you may quote limited portions of the BestNeighborhood Data with attribution and a link to the relevant page. You may also embed the badges and widgets the Site offers, in the form we provide them and with the links they carry intact.

3. Prohibited use

Except with our prior written permission, you may not:

  • use any automated means, including bots, crawlers, scrapers, headless browsers, browser automation frameworks, or scraping-as-a-service platforms, to access, collect, extract, copy, index, or monitor the BestNeighborhood Data;
  • access the Site through proxy networks, residential proxy pools, or rotating IP services for the purpose of evading access controls or rate limits;
  • circumvent, disable, or attempt to defeat any technical measure we use to restrict access, including rate limiting, bot detection, or access challenges;
  • misrepresent the identity of your client, including by supplying a User-Agent header that falsely identifies your request as originating from a search engine, an AI assistant, or any other operator;
  • reproduce, redistribute, resell, sublicense, or make the BestNeighborhood Data available to third parties, whether or not for a fee;
  • create derivative datasets, models, or products from the BestNeighborhood Data, including for the purpose of training machine-learning systems;
  • use the BestNeighborhood Data to build or improve a product that competes with the Site.

Ordinary indexing by a search engine that identifies itself truthfully, respects robots.txt, and is verifiable by reverse DNS is permitted and welcome.

4. Licensed access

Bulk and commercial access to the BestNeighborhood Data is available under license. This is usually cheaper, faster, and more reliable than scraping, and it comes with a documented schema and update cadence. To ask about a license, use the contact form and choose “Data inquiry”. Licensed use is governed by a separate written license agreement.

5. Enforcement

We employ technical measures to detect and block automated collection. Access that violates Section 3 may be blocked without notice. We reserve the right to pursue all available remedies for violations, including claims for breach of these Terms and for infringement of our rights in the BestNeighborhood Data, and to report violations to the platforms and infrastructure providers used to carry them out.

If you believe your access was blocked in error, please contact us with the time of the request and the page you were trying to reach, and we will investigate promptly.

6. No warranty

The BestNeighborhood Data is provided for informational purposes only. It is an estimate derived from incomplete and lagging source data and should not be relied upon as the sole basis for any decision about housing, lending, insurance, employment, tenancy, schooling, or personal safety. We make no warranty as to its accuracy, completeness, or fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing on the Site may be used to make a housing, lending, insurance, or employment decision that discriminates on a basis protected by law, including the federal Fair Housing Act.

7. Changes

We may update these Terms. Continued use of the Site after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

8. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
